What surprises you most about your life?
The fact that I'm alive. Growing up in the projects I thought I would end up a victim of a crime. And now that lifetime seems so far away and a dream. Becoming a writer was never what I thought I would be doing and now can't see a life without it.
Who is your favorite writer not enough people know?
The late Benito Pastoriza Iyodo, The works of Benito Pastoriza Iyodo engage the reader in the conspiracy of truth. Through poetry and narrative, the author's writings reflect the clash between the real and the unreal, in search of hope for modern man in crisis. Pastoriza Iyodo explores our multifaceted world in order to become intimate with the demons and gods that dwell within us. I was privileged to have published his collection of poetry.
What is your favorite thing about running a press?
My favorite thing about publishing is being able to provide a service of healing and education to the reader by introducing them to contemporary voices that are witness to everyday life.
Best writer snack food/comfort food?
When I'm at my desk it's with sparkling water, coffee, peanuts, or fruit.
Do you have any special writing routine or things you need to get into the writing zone?
Early in the morning is when I get most of my writing done. I read first.
What is your favorite summer escape?
A few days at South Padre Island. Love the ocean and relaxing by the pool.
What is the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received?
When you can't write, spend time in nature. This I've learned for myself. From others: write your truth.
