About Jan Stanley

In her research and writing, Jan explores human-nature relationships and their implications for how people live with each other, other-than-human life and the earth. Her on-going ethnographic research is in Iceland’s West Fjords. Jan is committed to narrative nonfiction as a means to explore and communicate the many facets of these complex relationships along with their emotional power and development. Retired since from ASU since 2018, Jan continues as a senior sustainability fellow with that university’s Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s in counseling and a doctorate in counseling psychology.
