About Tanya Shirazi Galvez
Tanya Shirazi-Galvez joined the Piper Center in summer 2021 as the Coordinator for the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference and the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series. She was born and raised in Los Angeles. She holds a BA in History from UCLA, an MS in Counseling Psychology from Mount St. Mary’s University, and a MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently at work on her first novel and a collection of short stories.
Previously, she served as Managing Editor for Aster(ix) Journal, a transnational feminist literary arts journal committed to social justice and translation, placing women of color at the center of the conversation. She is passionate about educational access for underserved communities and has worked in education for more than a decade in the classroom, community based organizations, and college access programs. She looks forward to creating and supporting transformative programming at the Virginia G. Piper Center.
