About Dr. Katie Berta

Katie Berta currently lives in Tempe, Arizona and works as the Managing Editor of The Iowa Review. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Prairie Schooner, The Kenyon Review Online, The Iowa Review, Blackbird, The Rumpus, Sixth Finch, Redivider, Massachusetts Review, Green Mountains Review, and The Offing, among other magazines.

You can find her book reviews in American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, West Branch, Harvard Review, and elsewhere. She has presented her scholarly work at the 2018 American Literature Association conference, and in Women’s Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal and the Emily Dickinson International Society Bulletin.

She has received a residency from the Millay Colony, fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center and the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, and an Iowa Review Award. Her manuscript, bad prayer, has been a finalist for the Brittingham and Pollak Prizes, the New Issues Poetry Prize, and the Colorado Prize for Poetry, among others. She got her PhD in Creative Writing at Ohio University and an MFA at Arizona State University.
