Educating and inspiring our writing community
Interested in teaching a class or workshop? The Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing is now accepting proposals for creative writing classes and workshops through the Piper Writers Studio.
To learn more about pitching your course, view the information below.
For other opportunities with the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, you can apply for a Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference fellowship.
The Piper Writers Studio is looking for course proposals that are interactive, compelling, and thought-provoking explorations of literary craft and technique that innovate learning while engaging the larger creative writing community.
We are open to course proposals in all manners and formats of delivery: in-person, online, and hybrid. We are also interested in all styles, genres, and forms, including fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, publishing, the business of writing, and more.
Individuals of all backgrounds, locales, and levels of experience are encouraged to submit.*
*Please note: students who are actively employed as Research or Teaching Assistants at ASU, U of A, or NAU are ineligible to teach through the Piper Writers Studio due to payment policies with the Arizona Board of Regents.
The selection of Piper Writers Studio courses is highly competitive and considers numerous factors, including identified needs of the writing community, genre and topic needs, balance of overall course offerings, individual teaching and publication histories, and other factors.
Submissions are open year-round unless otherwise noted on this site. We do ask that individuals submit no more than three courses in any given semester for consideration. Please note that, due to the volume of submissions received, individuals who submit proposals should expect to hear back from the Piper Center within two to three months.
Individuals who are selected to teach through the Piper Writers Studio will be contacted by the Education Programs Coordinator to begin scheduling and planning their course. All individuals receive monetary compensation for teaching with the Piper Writers Studio; amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis.
