Dunbar Elementary School

Creative writing in the classroom

In 2016, Piper Center Director Alberto Ríos worked with students from Dunbar Elementary School to produce artistic, literary, and musical responses to the places they lived as part of a $100,000 Our Town grant from the National Endowment from the Arts with the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture and the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

When the grant came to a close, the Piper Center decided to continue the work, providing creative writing education to Dunbar students through poetry, letter writing, found text, and more. The Dunbar program is run by ASU MFA student and Piper Community Outreach Fellow Charlee Moseley
