This Month: Art and Activism with tanner menard

How can the arts be used to mobilize community? What does an authentically engaged, community-based arts practice actually look like? How do we design events and programs to create more meaningful connections and intentional conversation? How do we activate communities around calls to action and other social issues?

About the Author

tanner menard is a poet & composer, a Louisiana Creole & a member of the Atakapa Ishak Nation. They have published ten albums of ambient music, a chapbook, were thrice nominated for a Pushcart Prize & are published in magazines such as Entropy & Beestung. The Wire Magazine called their sound poetry collaboration with Andrew Weathers an influential modern composition. They are an MFA Candidate at Northern Arizona University, have served as a member of their tribal council, as poetry editor of Thin Air Magazine & are a Kundalini Yoga Teacher.

Inspired by 17th century salons, Get Lit is a night of spirited conversation and literary culture every first Thursday at Valley Bar in the Reading Room (130 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Guests must be 21+.
