About this Event

FilmBar and the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing at Arizona State University are proud to present the Phoenix premiere of Motionpoems Season 9, a series of 16 short films based on poems on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at FilmBar (812 N 2nd St, Phoenix, AZ 85004).

Each year, Motionpoems commissions independent filmmakers from all over the country to produce short films based on work by some of today’s strongest voices in contemporary poetry. Season 9 features work by C. Russell Price, Analicia Sotelo, Dom Bury, Rhina Espaillat, Emily Jungmin Yoon, D. Gilson, Rachel Inez Marshall, Meghan Plunkett, and Brian Spears, with topics ranging across race, colonialism, sexuality, religion, climate change, and more.

As a bonus, the Phoenix premiere also features special extras from Naomi Shihab Nye,  Mark Wunderlich, Bob Hicock, John Ashberry, Todd Boss, Maggie Smith, and Hieu Minh Nguyen. Tickets are $8.
