Full conference registration for college students

The Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing is thrilled to offer a number of scholarships to the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference for individuals who are currently enrolled as full-time students in undergraduate or graduate degree programs at an institution of higher education in the United States.  

Scholarships provide full registration to the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference and recognition in the conference program.

Please note: individuals attending institutions outside of the United States are ineligible to apply.

Applications are due Friday, November 22, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. Arizona time.

College Student Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible for the College Student Scholarship, individuals must be currently enrolled as full-time students in undergraduate or graduate degree programs at an institution of higher education in the United States.

Please note: individuals who are enrolled in institutions outside of the United States are ineligible to apply.

No additional support for travel, lodging, or other financial assistance is available at this time.

Scholarship Application Process and Guidelines

Applications for the College Student Scholarship are simple, and consist of answering a set of questions around your interest in the conference, your relationship to creative writing, and the conference's personal and professional impact (500 words or less each):

  • What is your relationship to creative writing
  • What interests you in attending the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference in 2020?
  • How will the conference benefit you as a college student, writer, or reader? How will the conference help you to achieve your personal or professional goals?
  • Why did you apply for this scholarship? 

Important Dates

College Student Scholarships for 2020 are now open! Applications will be open until Friday, November 22, 2019 at 11:59 PM Arizona Time. All applicants will be informed of selection no later than December 20.
