About this Event

Join artist, poet, and educator Kelly M. Houle as she shares A Dream: Selected Poems by Abramek Koplowicz, a limited-edition, illustrated book of poems by a child victim of the Holocaust, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019. A Dream is the first print publication of five poems by a young boy whose life and childhood were destroyed during the Holocaust. Houle will share the story of how these poems arrived here, present readings from the text, and answer any questions about bookmaking, book arts, or other thoughts the audience may be curious about.

Born in Łódź, Poland on February 18, 1930, Koplowicz wrote poems and plays in the ghetto during World War II, and was eventually murdered in Auschwitz at the age of 14. Thanks to a stepbrother Abramek never knew, his poems are with us today. Koplowicz's work has been translated into English by MaƗgorzata Koraszewska and Sarah Lawson. The current edition has been illustrated by ASU alumna Kelly M. Houle.

While encouraged, RSVPs are purely for the purposes of monitoring attendance, gauging interest, and communicating information about parking, directions, and other aspects of the event. You do not have to register or RSVP to attend this event. This event is open to the public and free.

Houle's talk is presented as part of the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Literary Fair, a public extension of the Desert Nights, Rising Stars Writers Conference, February 22 - 23, 2019 at Arizona State University, Tempe Campus.
