Devoney Looser

About Devoney Looser

Devoney Looser, Professor of English at ASU since 2013, writes about and teaches courses on Jane Austen, the history of the novel, and history of British women’s writings. Her book, The Making of Jane Austen (June 2017), was named a Best Summer Book (Nonfiction) by Publishers Weekly. She’s written for The Atlantic, The TLS, The Independent, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and Entertainment Weekly. Looser also serves as faculty adviser to ASU’s roller derby team, with whom she has competed as Stone Cold Jane Austen. Her essays on roller derby have appeared in Slate and The Allrounder.
